The Academy of Turkish Philately
Turkish Philatelic Club, Ankara (1936)

We continue our ACADEMY ARCHIVE project with the Turkish Philatelic Club, founded in Ankara in 1936. Our dear friend Tarık ÇAKIN closely follows our work and shared a photograph that serves as documentation. It is a group photograph taken in 1936 in the studio of the famous photographer Rasim AR, located opposite the Ankara Courthouse.

These individuals are the founders of the TURKISH PHILATELIC CLUB, established in Ankara in 1936. The fourth person from the left among those standing is the Kemal ÇAKIN (R.I.P.), father of Tarık ÇAKIN. When I met him, he had an office in the Ulus İşhanı (Business Center) (ÇAKIN STAMPHOUSE). He was a retired naval officer and a very valuable elder of ours. I believe the person on the far right is the carpet dealer Adnan İZMİRLİER. When I met Adnan Bey, he was 103 years old and still going to his shop in Ulus İşhanı. The other founding members we identified are: Ali Nusret PULHAN (publisher, philatelist, stamp dealer), Cemal Faik YALIN (journalist), Fethi ALAN (bureaucrat), and Nafiz KURT (bureaucrat). (However, we were unable to determine their positions in this photo.)
