The Academy of Turkish Philately
About Us
The Turkish Philately Academy (TFA) is a working group affiliated to the Federation of Turkish Philately Associations, which aims to study the rich history of Turkish postal history and philately and intends to share the available information and introduce it to the world.
The umbrella organization of our philately world is the Federation of Turkish Philately Associations (TFDF) founded in 1958. TFDF is a structure formed by 12 federated associations, providing institutional relations with international organizations such as FIP, FEPA, Balkanfila, which are mostly PTT and state institutions, organizing domestic national and international exhibitions, providing accreditation in subjects such as jury, expert, commissioner. Why did we need a new structure under the name of Philately Academy, which is also a Working Group affiliated to the federation, when there is a federation covering such a wide area? Our most important reason for establishment is to touch and reach people that TFDF cannot do due to its status.
Mission
The Academy is a project realized in line with the joint decision and opinion of many interested people who make up our philatelic community and should not be perceived as an educational institution. Turkey is undoubtedly one of the leading countries in the world in terms of philatelic wealth, and sharing the knowledge in hand and in memory by preserving this position is the leading purpose of the establishment of the Philatelic Academy. Thus, an environment is created where everyone interested in the subject will get to know each other, contribute and discuss. Another aim of the Academy is to provide access to our stamps, postal history, anthologies, thematic studies; in short, all kinds of topics that can be considered under the umbrella of philately. Thus, not only at the expert level, but also for beginners, a vast accumulation of knowledge is made available to our philatelists. From this point of view, new participants are encouraged and a body where anyone interested in philately can easily become a member has been created.
Membership is possible with the proposal of two academy members and the approval of the board of directors. Since 2025, we have started to accept foreign philatelists who produce collections in the field of Ottoman and Turkish philately as members. Since the Statute is a working group affiliated to the federation, no dues are collected. On the other hand, our members officially donate to TFDF and finance our projects.

To bring together all people around the world who collect and do academic studies on Turkish and Ottoman philately.
